sitehealth: broken links, redirects and sitemap audit
A free crawler that walks your site, reports broken links and redirect chains, then validates sitemap.xml and hreflang markup, all locally and without paid services. Two jobs, nothing else.
Broken links
Walks internal and external links and collects every dead URL with its status code and the pages where it appears. Even beyond the page cap, every discovered link is still checked.
Redirect chains
Shows multi-step and looping redirects that burn crawl budget and leak link equity.
Sitemap validation
Discovers sitemap.xml through robots.txt or common paths, walks sitemap indexes, checks every URL status and flags hreflang alternates missing from the sitemap.
Two commands
# install from source (not published on PyPI yet)
pip install git+https://github.com/trendbender/sitehealth.git
# broken links and redirect chains
sitehealth crawl https://your-site.com --max-pages 300
# sitemap health (auto-discovers the sitemap)
sitehealth sitemap https://your-site.com
# explicit sitemap + report file
sitehealth sitemap https://your-site.com \
--sitemap https://your-site.com/sitemap_index.xml --report-file out.txtOptions: crawl has --max-pages (default 500), --depth, --timeout, --report-file; sitemap has --sitemap, --no-check, --timeout, --report-file. Output is a plain-text report on stdout. Note: an unrelated tool named siteprobe exists on PyPI; this one installs from GitHub and runs as sitehealth.
